Our challah project connects children with survivors of the Holocaust. The children draw pictures every week, which are turned into place-mats. These are delivered by our wonderful team of volunteers along with a freshly baked challah from Sharon’s bakery. Our volunteers stop outside for a chat, bringing warmth and kindness along with a challah to brighten up Shabbat.

The best way to see the joy we brought to people during Covid is through some of the photos that we took on our many deliveries. We had a wonderful team of volunteers who managed to connect to every Holocaust survivor in the area. This ensured they had a regular connection every Friday to help alleviate loneliness and isolation during a difficult time. The Children absolutely loved creating art for these survivors.

Whilst the interactions weren’t direct as in our other projects, the connections made were deep, as can be seen from some of the beautiful letters written by the survivors back to the students at school. We know that some of the connects forged by people delivering challahs are still continuing today.
